ART FEATURE: THE WORK OF CAMILLE LEWIS

In the artist’s words:

My name is Camille Lewis. I was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1992, where I still live and work today.
I attended Savannah College of Art and Design, which I later dropout of in order to begin a career as a professional fashion model. In 2014, after traveling the world as a successful model, I was faced with an emotionally trying time in my life filled with loss, grief, but most importantly growth. I returned to painting as a way of expressing the challenging obstacles I was experiencing as a young 21 year old. Four years later, this self-explorative habit stuck and I continue creating paintings that reflect my life experiences today.
My favorite mediums to use are acrylic and heavy body (when I desire to express more texture), on canvas or palette paper.
My work is inspired by the daily spiritual lessons I must learn from in order to progress in life: patience, letting go of perfection in life and in art, overcoming grief from loss, shedding old beliefs that no longer serve me, etc. My work is also inspired by many artists, including Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Basquiat, and others who use their craft to chronicle their journey through life.
