WELCOME HOME FROM SHADES OF BLUE

About the artist:
Ian Flanigan “inspires a nostalgic sentiment akin to wistful escapism… emotional without being weepy, vulnerable without being pitiful, and conceptual while still remaining relatable” (Gallagher, SUNY editorial). Flanigan’s sound—an eclectic blend of progressive folk and percussive fingerstyle—is reminiscent of the road less traveled, paved with poignant lyrical truths of his past. Local to upstate New York, Flanigan’s songwriting features his rich, husky voice and evocative lyrics highlighting the rural landscape of his compositions. Each song serenades the unity of life and an affinity for atonement—a sound that’s provocative, and familiar. This year he celebrates his place as a Kerrville Grassy Hill New Folk Festival finalist. Flanigan has had the pleasure of sharing stages with, Sean Rowe, The Pedrito Martinez Group, Session Americana, Chris Knight, and Dwight Yoakam.

Flanigan’s ensemble of musicians feature talent from a dynamic array of genres including, chamber, folk, and jazz. His songwriting gathers their diverse backgrounds into a marriage uniquely theirs. His players include, Rob Stein (The Mammals/peddle steel), Scot Moore (viola and violin), Andrew Borkowski (cello) Dan Grimsland (3/bass), and Hektor Beccera (drums). Each virtuoso brings resounding life to Flanigan’s sound that is celebrated, and acclaimed by all.

About the artist:

I am Nikolas Karathanasis, living in Athens, Greece. My introduction to photography began several years ago. I associate my work with black and white film through experiment and research; the smell of chemicals, the joy & excitement of composition. Within the past years, I work with digital photography. I have participated in several exhibitions in Greece and abroad.

Facts, pictures of everyday life, ideas, people and their passions, whatever moves in the space of exaggeration. All this is inspirational to me. Photography, as I see it, means communication with the world and this is my motivation. I use many photographic techniques and skills to frame daily scenes and to manipulate the light so to build a bridge of communication with people, in a subtle way. This becomes a vessel for sharing ideas, thoughts and feelings. In so, we are extracted from loneliness, and create a humane environment. New perspectives for the mind to walk on, think, wonder.
