Art: Memories from the Multiverse: Comfortably Between by Erik Leraz
SOLITUDE
Souls
Watching the hermit nun Sister Wendy describe
complex biblical scenes in 3 sentences
reminded me once again to spend less time
getting our finances in order
and more time caring for our souls.
Desert
After 39 years atop a 50-foot pillar in the desert
St. Simeon Stylites leaned too far forward
and plummeted to his death in the boiling hot sand
below smiling all the way down. “Finally, thank God”
he murmured his last words to no one in particular.
Midnight
Midnight he tip-toes into the living room sits
in the lotus position with his eyes closed
listens to his mother’s favorite album of Ferrante
& Teicher playing Tchaikovsky Piano Concertos
and wonders what his future would be like without a father.
About the author:
Michael Estabrook has been publishing his poetry in the small press since the 1980s. Hopefully with each passing decade the poems have become more clear and concise, succinct and precise, more appealing and “universal.” He has published over 20 collections, a recent one being Bouncy House, edited by Larry Fagin (Green Zone Editions, 2014).

In the artist’s words:
Erik Leraz is about as normal as normal can be when it comes to abusing words, sounds and imagery so as to disturb what is sometimes the vast unknown of actual reality.
