Art: Follow the Light by Fabrice Poussin
The Sun
We built a nest of books and blocks
and threw the windows wide. In the yard
beyond the wall that holds the street
at bay, in an overhang of oleander,
the sun, its orange banner waving,
calls her out to play. Hands high,
her face a sunflower, her dress an array
of petals, she steps beyond the shade.
Its rays stroke her hair in auburn flame.
She rolls in the patch of light, swims
and dances: my blood-omen, little fire-fish,
clay of my clay.
About the author:
Sherre Vernon is an educator, a poet and a believer in the mystical power of words. Sherre has written two award-winning chapbooks: Green Ink Wings, her postmodern novella and The Name is Perilous, a 2008 poetry chapbook. Sherre's work is heartbreaking, richly layered, lyrical and intelligent. She strives for linguistic efficiency by stepping outside of familiar phrases into a dynamic, shimmering grammar.

Beautiful. I was there, an onlooker… wishing I was there. Warm imagery, this poem is a small capsule of captured setting, emotion, and visual art brought to life. Impressive.
