About the artist:

My name is Gaëtan Changeur, and I am a Paris-born artist (1981) whose photographic journey began at the age of 16. It was in the quiet intimacy of a darkroom—built by my father—that I first discovered the transformative magic of analog photography. Around that time, I also encountered the surreal and experimental work of Man Ray, which deeply influenced me. This formative period ignited a passion for creating photograms and pinhole photographs, blending photographic processes with painting to develop hybrid, often abstract visual languages. An internship later shifted my focus toward food photography, opening up a vibrant exploration of color.

This transition led to my first major color-driven series, Culinary Compressions—a body of work that navigates solid and liquid matter to create bold, abstract compositions. I see these pieces as a macroscopic dive into the origins of substance. Over the years, I’ve exhibited in both Nice and Paris, and in 2015 I was selected for the artist residency La Friche in Nice. There, I collaborated with a diverse collective of artists from disciplines such as sculpture, theatre, graphic design, and puppetry.

This residency inspired me to experiment further with movement and depth, which led to the development of my current ongoing project, Liquid Soul. Working with water, ink, milk, and other substances in a large aquarium, I explore how motion and matter intertwine. As I often say, “It’s not just the technical process that brings the image to life. I always add my personal touch, striving to breathe life into the composition, giving it my final interpretation.”
